Most of us are familiar with what is called “expository nonfiction.” These are the texts that explain the "Bill of Rights" or describe the planets of the solar system.
One big part of comprehension is having a sufficient vocabulary, or knowing the meanings of enough words. Readers who have strong comprehension are able to draw conclusions about what they read – what is important, what is a fact, what caused an event to happen, which characters are funny. Thus comprehension involves combining reading with thinking and reasoning.
On a final note I would just like to say that this article is just a tiny portion of the many ideas made in this book. I cannot cover all the elements of the book, and there are many things expressed in the book that cannot be conveyed using words alone. You can feel the emotions of the author through the words in the story he has woven, and that is something a review/summary cannot make of. So I strongly suggest that if you haven’t read “Animal Farm” yet, read it this instant, and if you have read it, read “6989”.
